In keeping with the mission of BackYard Nature Center (BYNC), the fundamental purpose of
this project is to enrich the lives of students by developing and strengthening their bond with the wonders of nature. This project, “Science Curricula in Nature,” focuses on the educational relationship between the school science curricula and the natural ecosystem in its “backyard.” The project is assisted with the collaboration of the school's Science Department, the Site Stewards of the Skokie Lagoons and the Watersmeet Prairie, and ecologists who are familiar with the local forest preserves.
Our goal is to enhance the learning experience for students enrolled in science courses by using the local forest preserves (i.e. the Skokie Lagoons and the Watersmeet Prairie) as classroom laboratories.
